Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Thomas Frank as their head coach just over 12 hours after Tuesday’s night 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle United.

Frank was only appointed in the role last summer, replacing Ange Postecoglou, but has been axed just eight months later.

The pressure has been piling on for the Dane with Spurs winless in their past eight Premier League games – their longest run without a victory since October 2008.

Furthermore they have won just two of their past 17 league matches and picked up only 12 points in that time.

And following Tuesday’s defeat by Newcastle, the Tottenham hierarchy have decided to search for a new head coach with the club currently languishing in 16th in the Premier League – just five points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham Hotspur’s statement on sacking Thomas Frank

In a short statement on Wednesday morning, the north London outfit announced: ‘The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.

‘Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

‘However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

‘Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.’

Who are the candidates to replace Thomas Frank?

Roberto De Zerbi is among the early leading candidates to replace Frank. De Zerbi left Marseille by mutual consent just an hour before Frank was sacked.

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is another manager linked with the role, however the fan favourite would not be free until after guiding the USA in the 2026 World Cup.

Oliver Glasner is another name being linked to the role, with the Austrian having already confirmed that he will be leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the season.
