Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira has been given the sack after a disastrous start to the season, which has seen them yet to win any of their 10 Premier League games.

The final straw came on Saturday after Wolves’ abject 3-0 defeat at Fulham, which saw them go down to 10 men after Emmanuel Agbadou’s 36th-minute red card.

Pereira leaves Wolves rooted to the bottom of the table, with just two points from a possible 30 – and eight adrift of safety. The Portuguese’s only two wins this season came in the Carabao Cup.

He’s the fourth Premier League manager to be sacked this season following the departures of Nuno Espirito Santo (Nottingham Forest), Graham Potter (West Ham United) and Ange Postecoglou (Nottingham Forest again).

The 57-year-old’s exit is a dramatic U-turn from just 45 days ago when he signed a new three-year contract at Molineux.

Wolves statement on Vitor Pereira’s sacking

On Sunday afternoon, Wolves released a 188-word statement about Pereira’s sacking.

‘Wolves have parted company with head coach Vitor Pereira, after a winless start to the 2025-26 season,’ it begins.

‘Upon his arrival at Molineux last December, Pereira and his coaches made an immediate impact, guiding the team to a successful second half of the Premier League campaign.

‘However, results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary.

‘All eight of Pereira’s backroom staff have also left the club.

‘Under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 head coach Richard Walker will take training while the club finalise the appointment of a new first-team head coach.’

The statement ends with words from executive chairman Jeff Shi who thanked Pereira and his coaching staff for their efforts but he couldn’t look past the club’s results.

‘Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful,’ Shi said.

‘Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.

‘We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.’

Vitor Pereira’s statement after leaving Wolves

Later on Sunday afternoon, Pereira issued his own short statement about his time at Molineux writing: ‘It has been a privilege to manage Wolverhampton Wanderers and experience unique moments with this club and its supporters.

‘I would like to thank the club’s owners for their trust, the players for their hard work and commitment over these months, and all the staff for making me feel part of the family

‘I wish the club all the best for the season.’

Who will succeed Vitor Pereira at Wolves?

As per the Molineux outfit’s statement, under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 head coach Richard Walker will lead their club’s training sessions while the hierarchy look for Pereira’s replacement.

According to some bookmakers, Brendan Rodgers – who recently resigned as Celtic’s manager – is among the frontrunners to succeed Pereira.

Former Manchester United managers Erik ten Hag, who was sacked at Bayer Leverkusen in August, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are also reportedly in the running.
