Patrick Bamford has returned to the Premier League with a vengeance at Leeds United… his goalscoring exploits mean he must be on England’s radar

After Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League, the West Yorkshire club spent big in the transfer market bringing in star forwards; Rodrigo and Raphinha for a combined £45million. Given these additions fans were surprised to see Patrick Bamford retain his place in the starting line-up, despite scoring 16 goals in Leeds championship title winning campaign.

Bamford has returned to the Premier League with a vengeance after past criticism from rival fans.

Prior to joining Leeds United, the English forward made 27 appearances across four separate loan spells with Middlesbrough, Norwich City, Burnley and Crystal Palace.

With just one Premier League goal to his name before the 2020-21 season commenced, the media began to question whether or not the former Chelsea striker was good enough to start for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

On July 17th, 2020 Leeds clinched promotion to the Premier League. Just three days later questions over Bamford’s ability began to circulate following the publication of a talkSPORT article. However the 27-year old-striker was quick to silence his critics by responding ‘And so it starts’ alongside three snoozing emojis.

Since Bamford’s response on Twitter his performances have been nothing short of spectacular – with seven goals in eight Premier League appearances so far.

He truly announced his return to the top flight after a 19-minute second-half hat-trick in a 3-0 win away to Aston Villa last month. The way he took his strikes against Villa certainly snatched the headlines as he claimed his first Premier League man-of-the-match award.

After an impressive start to the season, it’s hard to believe his performances will have gone unnoticed by England manager Gareth Southgate and many fans now agree that a national call up may not be too far away – as has been rumoured this week.
