Shadasia Green defeats Savannah Marshall on points

Shadasia Green beat Savannah Marshall on points in a hard fought fight in New York.

Green caused a bit of an upset tonight, getting a split decision over Marshall, unifying a pair of super middleweight world titles at Madison Square Garden.

Green got two cards of 95-94 and 96-93 while Marshall won the other card, 96-93.

Directly after Shadasia Green beat Savannah Marshall in the ring she said: ‘This is 20 years [in the making]. I was 15 years old and I wanted to box. My mother told me no, she told me I had to go to college but if I brought my degree back that I could pursue boxing. 20 years later, we’re unified.

‘I am overwhelmed with gratitude and joy.

‘I remember seeing people crying on TV, laughing. I was told when I won my titles I would feel like this.

‘These guys pushed me to my limit in this camp. I got beat up every day in sparring and I knew it was worth it because Savannah Marshall was worth it. Much respect to her for coming out and fighting me today. She is a great champion, she is phenomenal.’
