Amadou Onana: Everton midfielder’s racist abuse

Police are investigating the racial abuse that Amadou Onana received after Sunday’s 4-0 defeat against Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old shared a screenshot of a message he got after the loss.

Everton have come out and said, “such abuse is vile” and the Merseyside Police are investigating the incident.

This follows the online abuse that striker Neal Maupay received after last week’s 1-0 loss to Fulham.

The club have said, “Everton strongly condemn any form of racist and discriminatory abuse towards our players.”

Sadly, this happens too often – after England lost to Italy on penalties in the final of Euro 2020 it was highly publicised that Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho all received abuse after missing penalties.

Five people were arrested after these incidents – it will be interesting to see what happens with this latest incident.
