Ange Postecoglou has been sacked as Nottingham Forest head coach – just 19 minutes after the full-time whistle on their 3-0 Premier League home defeat.

Postecoglou’s tenure at the City Ground lasted just 39 days, after his appointment on September 9, meaning it is the shortest permanent managerial reign in Premier League history.

The Australian failed to win any of his eight matches in charge of Forest, with two draws and six defeats across all competitions.

During his spell, Forest won just one point from a possible 15 in the Premier League as their high hopes for this season switch to making sure they avoid relegation.

In a short club statement after the match, the Reds wrote: ‘Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.

‘The club will make no further comment at this time.’

It is the 60-year-old’s second dismissal in just a matter of months after being axed by Tottenham at the end of last season where they won the Europa League but finished 17th in the Premier League.

What next for Nottingham Forest?

Nottingham Forest owner Evaneglos Marinakis was in attendance for the defeat at the City Ground but was pictured leaving his seat shortly after the hour-mark.

The Greek is now searching for his third manager of the season after sacking Nuno Espirito Santo last month to appoint Postecoglou.

Former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche is a leading contender for the role, while ex-Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is another.
