Chelsea win Europa Conference League after emphatic 4-1 win over Real Betis

X/@ChelseaFC

Chelsea are Europa Conference champions after beating Real Betis with a sublime second-half showing on Wednesday night.

The Blues have been the heavy favourites to win the whole tournament since it began, and they duly delivered in the showpiece in Wroclaw, Poland.

However, Enzo Maresca’s side were made to sweat as they trailed at half-time courtesy of Abde Ezzalzouli’s ninth-minute strike.

The Spaniards could have extended their lead going into the interval as on-loan Manchester United winger Antony among their players who came close to scoring.

However, it was the class of Cole Palmer who turned the balance of the match with two exquisite assists for Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson to score.

Jadon Sancho made it 3-1 with a lovely curled finish before Moises Caicedo completed the scoreline in stoppage time.

History for Chelsea

It makes the Blues the first team to win all five Uefa club tournaments – the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, Super Cup and the defunct Cup Winners’ Cup.

And it brings to an end a remarkable run – with Chelsea the first foreign team to beat a Spanish side in a final since 2001.

Spanish teams had won the past 27 finals in men’s European club or international football to involve a side from that country.
