Newcastle United have completed the signing of Yoane Wissa from Brentford in a £55million transfer as their new post-Alexander Isak era begins.

Wissa has joined on a four-year contract and will be looking to fill the void of Isak who left Newcastle for Liverpool in a British record £125million transfer also on deadline day.

In signing Wissa, Newcastle have one of the most prolific players of last season – where he scored 19 Premier League goals for Brentford.

The fee is an initial £50m plus £5m in add-ons for the DR Congo international – with Newcastle finally landing their target, , who turns 29 on Tuesday, after seeing two previous bids rejected by Brentford.

Yoane Wissa ‘can’t wait to get started’ at Newcastle United

Wissa, who will the No 9 shirt at the Magpies, is relishing the move to St. James’ Park.

He told the club website: ‘I’m really happy to be here and to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

‘I’m very, very excited to put on the black and white shirt. I’ve got dreams, I’ve got faith, and now I will do my best to make it all happen. I can’t wait to get started.’

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe added: ‘Yoane is a player who we have admired for some time and we’re delighted to have him on board.

‘He brings proven Premier League quality, demonstrated not only by his goalscoring output but also the crucial work he does for the team.

‘Yoane will excite our supporters and complement our style of play – he has pace, power and an excellent work rate. He immediately makes us stronger.’

Wissa’s exit will sting Brentford

Wissa joined Brentford in 2021 and went on to score 49 goals in 149 appearances for the club.

However, the manner of exit will have stung the Bees as like Isak he also released a public statement asking to leave the west London outfit. He accused them of ‘unduly standing in his way’ in the process on Sunday before getting his wish 24 hours later.
