Manchester City have completed the signing of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in a £20million transfer on Monday.

The centre back, who had a medical on Sunday, has signed a five-and-a-half year contract at City.

Speaking last Friday, outgoing Palace boss Oliver Glasner revealed that Guehi was close to completing a move to the Etihad Stadium, much to his displeasure.

Guehi would have been able to leave Palace as a free agent this summer, but the Palace hierarchy have decided to cash-in on the defender.

The 25-year-old England international leaves Palace as their most successful captain in their history – leading them to FA Cup glory last season and Community Shield success at the start of this campaign.

Marc Guehi: Manchester City is the ‘right environment’ to improve

Upon moving to Manchester, Guehi – who will the No 15 shirt at City – said the move is the ‘right environment’ to improve as a player.

‘First and foremost, it’s such an honour, such a big club to come and play for,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘For me, I have always just been obsessed with getting better and wanting to improve and that’s something I am constantly striving for and this is the perfect place for me to do that.

‘I have heard so much about the club and the fans, the players speak for themselves, the manager.

‘It’s definitely the right environment for me to improve and just get better.

‘Hopefully I can bring what I have to the table to help every single person here too.’
