West Ham United have wasted no time in finding Graham Potter’s successor with Nuno Espirito Santo appointed as their new head coach.

In the space of just over four hours the Hammers announced the sacking of Potter and hiring of Nuno as they look to ignite a disastrous start to the season.

Nuno has signed a three-year contract with the east London outfit, who sit 19th in the Premier League, and his first game in their dugout will be for Monday night’s trip to Everton in the top flight.

On a personal level it’s been a whirlwind three weeks for the Portuguese who was sacked by Nottingham Forest, with former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou replacing him.

Nuno Espirito Santo looking forward to his new challenge

‘I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be.

‘The work has already started and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.’

West Ham’s reasons for hiring Nuno as their new head coach

In a statement on their website, West Ham hailed their new managerial appointment’s qualities.

‘He [Nuno] arrives at London Stadium having put together a hugely impressive coaching career, most recently leading Nottingham Forest to European qualification via a seventh-place Premier League finish and the FA Cup semi-finals last season.

‘A multiple league title and cup winner as a player with Porto and coach with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, the 51-year-old is among the most highly respected coaches in the modern game.

‘Nuno brings his outstanding coaching ability, tactical acumen and leadership qualities to West Ham United and is looking forward to getting down to work in east London.’
