Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has revealed he will be leaving the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The Austrian joined the Eagles in February 2024, signing a deal until the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
And speaking during Friday’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League to Sunderland, Glasner spoke about his intentions this summer.
‘A decision has already been taken, months ago. I had a meeting with Steve [Parish] in October, the international break,’ Glasner said.
‘We had a very long talk, and I told him I will not sign a new contract. We agreed at the time it was the best to keep it between us. It’s the best that we could do that and keep it confidential for three months.
‘But now it’s important to have clarity, and we had a very busy schedule so that’s why we didn’t want to talk about it. Steve and I want the best for Crystal Palace.
‘I’m just looking for a new challenge.
‘I haven’t spoken to any other club, I told the players that and promised them today I will give my best to give the best season in Crystal Palace history, the best points tally in history.
‘We are now four points better off than we were at this stage of the season and we will do everything to bring another trophy back to Selhurst Park.’
The 51-year-old will leave Selhurst Park as their greatest manager in their history – having won the FA Cup last May and then followed that up with Community Shield success three months later.
Glasner has been linked with the Manchester United job in the summer following Ruben Amorim’s sacking earlier this month. The Red Devils currently have Michael Carrick in as interim head coach until the end of the season.
Marc Guehi is leaving Crystal Palace, while Jean-Philippe Mateta could also go
Glasner’s revelation also follows the news during the same press conference that captain Marc Guehi is close to joining Manchester City, while Jean-Philippe Mateta is also available to clubs at the right price.
On Guehi, Glasner said: “Latest understanding, the deal with Marc is in the final stages. We can’t confirm, but it is not done. The result is Marc doesn’t play tomorrow for us.
‘When the players want to move on a deal will happen. It looks like it has happened now.
‘Everyone wanted Marc [Guehi] to stay forever. I talked to him, of course, it stays between us. Marc shown it in the summer transfer window, shown it the whole autumn that he was 100 per cent committed to the team and to Crystal Palace.
‘I wish him all the best for the rest of his career. He is still at the beginning of his great career. He is a fantastic guy.’
