Rangers’ search for a new head coach is over with the appointment of former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl.

Rohl has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Scottish giants, replacing Russell Martin.

Martin was sacked just 15 days ago after 17 games in charge of the Ibrox outfit.

In trying to replace Martin, Rangers spoke with former boss Steven Gerrard and ex-Gers defender Kevin Muscat but talks broke down. As a result they turned to Rohl.

Danny Rohl: Rangers are an ‘incredible club’

The German has been without a club since leaving Wednesday at the end of last season and is relishing the opportunity he has been given.

‘It is a huge privilege at an incredible club, recognised around the world,’ said the German.

‘I know it has been a difficult start to the season, but there is still so much to play for.

‘The expectations here are clear. The fans want to see results now – my mentality and experience is to think in exactly the same way.

‘We have no time to waste. We start straight away. I respect that trust is earned and understand we have to give the supporters confidence in what we are doing by showing it on the pitch from the start.’

Rangers are sixth in the Scottish Premiership with one win from eight games, and face Brann in the Europa League at 5.45pm BST on Thursday – in what will be Rohl’s first game in charge.
