Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to complete the double signing of Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

The Welshman moved to Real from Spurs  for a then world record fee of £85m in 2013. Whilst he has now fallen out of favour he has since scored more than 100 goals and won four Champions League titles during his spell in the Spanish capital.

Ironically both players had been linked with Manchester United but the North London Club are currently favourites to get their signatures.

Reguilon, 23, came through the youth set-up at Real, going on to make his first-team debut in October 2018.

He had a successful loan spell at Seville last season where he won the Europa League.

United were put off a deal due to Real demanding a buyback clause which has allowed Jose Mourinho’s team to make their move.

If Bale does move it is most like to be on loan but it could be a permanent move but a major issue is that he still has two years left on a contract – with a whopping salary understood to be worth about £600,000 a week.

There is no doubt Bale was hugely successful in his first few seasons at Real, where he scored in the 2014 and 2018 Champions League finals.

But the last couple of seasons have seen him become a bit-part player after a run of injuries, a lack of form and a poor relationship with manager Zinedine Zidane.
