Iga Swiatek made Wimbledon history after a demolition straight-sets 6-0, 6-0 win over Amanda Anisimova to be crowned champion on Centre Court.

The Pole, who had not won a title since lifting the French Open last May, was too much for her American opponent who froze in her first Grand Slam final.

It is the first time that someone has won the Wimbledon women’s final with a double-bagel, as Swiatek dominated in 57 minutes to lift her sixth Grand Slam title.

Iga Swiatek in disbelief at dominant Wimbledon display

‘It seems super surreal,” said the 24-year-old, whose five previous major titles came on clay or hard courts and who has won every Slam final she has contested.

‘Honestly, I didn’t even dream of winning Wimbledon because it was way too far.

‘I feel like I’m an experienced player, having won other Slams, but I didn’t expect this.’

Devastated Amanda Anisimova fights back the tears

For Anisimova, the emotions were in stark contrast as she tried to compose herself, while congratulating her opponent.

‘Iga, you’re such an incredible player, obviously showed today. You’ve been such an inspiration to me, an unbelievable athlete. Congratulations to you and your team,’ the upset American said.

‘Thank you to everyone who’s supported me since my first-round match here. It’s been an incredible fortnight for me even though I ran out of gas today and I wish I could have put on a better performance for you.’
