The wait is almost over. Serie A returns later this month, with another season of drama, derby days and title races set to get underway across Italy.
While the full fixture list for the 2026/27 campaign was released earlier this summer, supporters are still waiting to discover exactly when many of their team’s matches will kick off. As in previous seasons, Lega Serie A will announce fixtures in stages throughout the campaign to accommodate television scheduling and UEFA competitions.
Here’s everything you need to know.
When does the Serie A season start?
The 2026/27 Serie A season gets underway on the weekend of 22-23 August 2026, with all 20 clubs beginning their quest for the Scudetto.
The campaign will conclude on the weekend of 29-30 May 2027, when the title race, European qualification places and relegation battle are all expected to reach their climax.
When were the fixtures released?
The complete 2026/27 fixture list, showing which teams play each other in every round, was released on 5 June 2026.
However, only the opponents and matchdays were confirmed. The precise dates and kick-off times are announced throughout the season once television broadcasters and UEFA competitions have been taken into account.
The first batch of confirmed fixtures has already been published:
Matchdays 1-5: Released on 24 June 2026
Kick-off dates and times for the opening five rounds have now been confirmed.
When will the remaining fixtures be announced?
Although Lega Serie A has not confirmed every release date, the league has followed the same phased approach for several years. Based on previous seasons, supporters can expect announcements around the following dates:
Matchdays
Expected release
6-12
Early September 2026
13-22
Early to mid October 2026
23-24
Mid to late December 2026
25-27
Late January 2027

38
Around 17-19 May 2027
These dates could move slightly but have become the standard schedule used by Lega Serie A.
How is the Serie A calendar structured?
Most Serie A rounds will take place across Friday to Monday, allowing broadcasters to spread fixtures across the weekend.
There are a few notable exceptions:
Season begins: 22-23 August 2026
Season ends: 29-30 May 2027
Midweek round: Wednesday 28 October 2026
Midweek round (Epiphany): Wednesday 6 January 2027
International breaks
The calendar also includes several pauses for international football.
The most significant interruption comes early in the season, with an extended FIFA international window resulting in a break from 21 September until 6 October 2026.
There will also be international breaks on:
9-17 November 2026
22-30 March 2027
These pauses allow national teams to compete in FIFA international fixtures before domestic football resumes.
Why are fixtures announced in stages?
Many supporters wonder why kick-off times are not confirmed for the entire season.
The reason is simple. Serie A must coordinate with:
UEFA Champions League
UEFA Europa League
UEFA Conference League
Domestic cup competitions
Television broadcasting schedules
Police and local authority requirements
By announcing fixtures in phases, the league can avoid scheduling conflicts while maximising television coverage and supporter attendance.
Looking ahead
With the fixture list already known and the opening five rounds confirmed, excitement is building ahead of another fascinating Serie A campaign.
