Australia win Women’s T20 World Cup after seven-wicket win over tournament hosts England

England’s hopes of winning the T20 World Cup on home soil were emphatically dashed after a seven-wicket defeat by Australia at Lord’s.

The victory saw Australia win a seventh title and reassert their dominance in the women’s game.

Batting first, England made 150-4 as they struggled to get on top of Australia’s attack.

And their Ashes rivals showed how it was done as they made their target after with 2.5 overs left as they finished on 153-3.

Despite the loss, England can take some positives at the progression made under head coach Charlotte Edwards.

However, there is still long way to go to match Australia who finished the tournament unbeaten to win a 14th World Cup across all formats as well as one Commonwealth Games gold.
