Cristiano Ronaldo will NOT be banned for any Portugal games and is fined just £215 – which is 38 seconds-worth of his £488,000 daily pay!

Cristiano Ronaldo will not be suspended for any Portugal matches after learning of his soft punishments on Monday evening.

Earlier this month, the Portugal captain was provisionally banned by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) following his high-profile walkout from Portugal’s UEFA Nations League squad.

Ronaldo walked out of his country’s squad at the end of last month after being left as an unused substitute during their 2-1 win at Norway on September 27 and learning that he would not start against Denmark on October 1.

It was unclear what the severity of his punishment would be but the 41-year-old has now learned his fate.

He has been suspended for 30 days, backdated from his walkout on September 30 – meaning he is free to resume his international career from October 31. Portugal’s next two matches are in the UEFA Nations League against Denmark (November 14) and Wales (November 17).

Furthermore he has only been fined £214.88 (€255) for his actions. That fee can be paid off by the 41-year-old within 38 seconds of his daily pay, considering he earns a whopping £488,000-per-day at Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Nassr.

Portugal statement on Ronaldo

In their statement about Ronaldo’s punishment, the PFP said: ‘The Disciplinary Council – Non-Professional Section – of the Portuguese Football Federation decides, in these proceedings, to find the accusation fully justified and, consequently, to condemn the defendant Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro for the commission, on one occasion and intentionally, of the disciplinary infraction foreseen and sanctioned by paragraph 1 of article 160 of the RDFPF, applying to him, consequently, the sanction of suspension for 30 (thirty) days and, additionally, the sanction of a fine which is set at 2.5 UC, that is, €255.00 (two hundred and fifty-five euros).’

Jorge Jesus dilemma

With Ronaldo now free to play for Portugal the question remains: will head coach Jorge Jesus select him?

Before he was provisionally suspended, Ronaldo released a statement encompassing almost 2,000 words – which included him hitting out at Jesus for ‘breaking his word’.

Jesus has since said he would be willing to recall Ronaldo once a punishment was finalised. Time will tell come his squad announcement for next month’s UEFA Nations League games.
