Jannik Sinner wins Wimbledon for a second-straight year after beating Alexander Zverev in four sets

Jannik Sinner has successfully defended his Wimbledon title after beating Alexander Zverev in four sets on Sunday.

The world No 1 came back from losing the first set 6-7 (7-9) to prevail 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, 6-4 at the All England Club.

In the heat of London, and in front of a star-studded crowd – which included the likes of Prince William and Princess Kate as well as Hollywood stars Ben Stiller and Nicole Kidman – Sinner claimed the second-longest win of his career as he fell to the floor in celebration after three hours and 46 minutes of tennis.

‘It has been an amazing final once again. It always takes two players,’ said the Italian, who claimed the fifth Grand Slam title of his career with his first major win in 2026.

‘I’m very happy about the win but also about the level we played.’

The 24-year-old, who has now won his past 10 matches against Zverev, is the 10th man to retain the Wimbledon men’s trophy since the Open era began in 1968.

Zverev, who won the French Open last month, started brightly and will be ruing he second-set tie-break which denied him the opportunity of going up by two sets in the match.

Speaking about his loss, the 29-year-old – who will move above the injured Carlos Alcaraz to second in the world rankings on Monday – said: ‘Jannik, I don’t really like you any more.

‘He showed once again why he is the best player in the world.’
