Canelo Alvarez regains WBC super-middleweight title after beating Christian Mbilli

Boxing Gloves

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has returned to winning ways following 13 months out of the ring after beating Christian Mbilli on Saturday.

Alvarez won by unanimous decision to reclaim the WBC super-middleweight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In a dominant display, the 36-year-old outclassed Mbilli, 31, to win 115-112, 116-111, 117-110 on the judges’ scorecards.

It was the Mexican’s first outing since losing to Terence Crawford in September 2025 in their undisputed super-middleweight bout.

The four-weight world champion has now won 64 fights in his storied career, while it was Mbilli’s first defeat in 31 contests.

‘It’s so difficult to explain,’ said Alvarez post-fight. ‘It’s something unbelievable, this feeling. Like my first title. Thirty-one years as a professional. Sixteen years ago, I won my first title. Now, I won the title again. I’m so proud.

‘I’m going to rest. I’m going to keep learning. I’m going to keep working hard. And right now I’m going to be a couple of weeks off and then come back.’
