Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua is ON: British heavyweight rivals to finally fight on December 11 in Cardiff

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will finally fight on December 11 after it was announced on Thursday afternoon, after a decade in the making.

The British heavyweight rivals will go toe-to-toe in the ring at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with it broadcast globally on Netflix.

Despite the bout being held on British shores, the ringwalk timings will suit the North American audience more with it due to take place between 1am-2am GMT, which would be 8pm-9pm EST.

Following the announcement of the fight, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that scenario for the Friday night into Saturday morning showdown.

‘It’s my understanding it will be around 1-1.30am [for the main event] but, again, if it creeps to 2am, I don’t know,’ Hearn told his Matchroom Boxing YouTube channel.

‘It’s quite unique because on a Saturday, boxing would start around 4-5pm. You’re really looking at boxing probably starting around 8pm or 9pm.’

This won’t be the first time that the Principality Stadium has held late-night boxing before, with home favourite Joe Calzaghe’s sublime win over Mikkel Kessler in November 2007 which began at 1am GMT.

Build-up for the fight will begin on September 30 when Fury and Joshua will come face-to-face at a news conference in London.

‘I am inspiring a generation,’ Joshua, 36, posted on Instagram. Fury, 38, is yet to comment on the announcement.

Saudi Arabia boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh broke the news of the bout on social media and spoke of his happiness at finalising the deal.

‘Two of the best heavyweights of this generation, finally in the ring together,’ Alalshikh said.

‘This will be one of the biggest fights in boxing history. I am very happy to make this fight happen for the fans.’

Both Fury and Joshua fought in July in preparation for this long-awaited showdown, which was announced to be in the works in April.

Fury stopped Mariusz Wach in a low-key affair – with his opponent retiring on his stool at the start of the eighth round.

Two days later, Joshua knocked out Kristian Prenga in the second round of their heavyweight bout – despite being knocked down twice himself in the first round.
