Conor Benn loses WBC welterweight title fight to Ryan Garcia as Brit is outclassed before stopped in second round to reigning champion

Boxing Gloves

Conor Benn’s quest to become a world champion was emphatically crushed by Ryan Garcia who stopped the Brit inside two rounds at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The WBC welterweight world champion dominated from the opening bell, with Benn’s tactic to rush forward exposing him to Garcia’s superior skills.

Benn was dropped by a right hook in round two but managed to beat the count, before another Garcia onslaught saw the referee wave the fight off with the challenger backed against the ropes.

‘I knew he would bring the pressure, I felt the shots and though ‘I’ll let him have his way’, but I knew his was reckless and you can’t do that with me,’ Garcia told DAZN.

‘147lb is my division. I’m here, you can trust me as a champion.’

Fighting down at 147lbs for the first time since 2022, Benn was facing a significant step up in class against an opponent renowned for his hand speed.

Now he will have to rebuild his career with his pro-record now standing at 27-2.
