Lando Norris wins the Hungarian Grand Prix – as reigning F1 world champion claims his first victory of the season

Lando Norris claimed his and McLaren’s first victory of the F1 season as he won the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Norris, who is the reigning champion, cruised to victory – as all the drama unfolded behind him in the closing stages.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and current championship leader Kimi Antonelli battled it out for second, with the former coming just out on top.

Lewis Hamilton crossed the line in fourth but he ended up finishing in fifth after he was slapped with a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane. This sanction meant his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc came fourth instead – with Hamilton, now 50 points behind Antonelli in the season standings in second place.

Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar came sixth, ahead of George Russell – with the Mercedes driver now 59 points behind Antonelli in the standings.

Liam Lawson (eighth), Nico Hulkenburg (ninth) and Arvid Lindblad (10th) rounded out the top 10.

What’s next?

Formula 1 is now on its summer holidays with a four-week break before the next race, the Dutch Grand Prix from August 21-23. It is a sprint event and also F1’s final visit to Zandvoort with the circuit’s contract ending this year.
