Malaysia to host postponed Bahrain Grand Prix in October due to ongoing Middle East conflict

Malaysia will host a grand prix in October on behalf of Bahrain after their race was called off earlier this season due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.

The Sepang track near Kuala Lumpar will host the race on October 2-4.

It will be known as the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia and will be a week before the Singapore Grand Prix.

In a statement from F1 they said the deal would ‘deliver 23 races for the 2026 season’ and that ‘the rest of the schedule remains unchanged’.

Despite this deal being finalised, there is still uncertainty over the final two races of the season in Qatar and Abu Dhabi due to the war between the US/Israel and Iran.

A decision will be made in September to determine if those two races can or cannot go ahead.

Portimao in Portugal and Istanbul Park in Turkey are also under consideration, but are significantly less likely as both tracks have construction work to complete before their official return to the F1 2027 calendar.
