Bristol City have completed the signing of Josh Stokes from Aldershot Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old will remain on loan to the Shots for the remainder of the 2023-24 season as part of the deal.

Stokes has played a major part in Aldershot’s success so far this season, scoring 16 goals in just 29 games for the Hampshire club.

Aldershot enjoyed an FA Cup run that saw them reach the third round of the famous competition, before bowing out to West Brom after a 4-1 defeat at the Hawthorns.

The Robins fought off interest from the likes of Brentford and Coventry City to secure Stokes’ signature, and City’s Technical Director Brian Tinnion was delighted with the deal.

‘Josh is a fantastic talent who will only improve,’ he said.

‘We wish him all the best for the remainder of the season with Aldershot and look forward to seeing him in the summer.’

Bristol City have a strong history of developing young talent, with the likes of Alex Scott, Lloyd Kelly and Antoine Semenyo all being sold to Premier League side Bournemouth for large fees in recent seasons.

Stokes is looking forward to taking the next step in his career and getting started at Ashton Gate in the near future.

‘I’m delighted to sign for Bristol City, it’s a massive club with huge ambition,’ the teenager said.

‘They’re a club that gives young players an opportunity and I’m looking forward to the next few years.’
