Burnley SACK Nicky Hayen as head coach after just 14 games in charge

A picture of a grassroots football pitch.

Burnley have sacked head coach Nicky Hayen just three months into his tenure after a disastrous start to the season.

Hayen only lasted 14 matches in charge of the Clarets before he was relieved of his duties on Saturday evening.

His last game came after a 4-1 defeat at Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon, a fixture they were leading.

That result leaves the Turf Moor outfit 22nd in the Championship and having lost six of their 12 games in the second tier.

Hayen was only appointed on July 10, succeeding Scott Parker who left the club at the end of April following their Premier League relegation.

Burnley announced Hayen’s sacking with a short two-sentence statement within two hours of their defeat at the ProAmpac Stadium.

‘Burnley Football Club has dismissed Head Coach Nicky Hayen with immediate effect,’ it began.

‘The Board has taken the decision following a disappointing start to the Championship season.’

Burnley are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Portsmouth in the Championship.
