Burnley are RELEGATED from the Premier League after 1-0 home defeat by Manchester City

Football

Burnley have become the second Premier League team to be relegated this week after their fate was confirmed on Wednesday night.

The Clarets follow Wolves – who were relegated on Monday night – in dropping to the Championship next season, after a 1-0 defeat by City.

Erling Haaland’s goal in the fifth minute proved the difference between the two teams at Turf Moor – while also seeing the visitors go top of the Premier League.

That result left Burnley 13 points adrift of 17th-placed West Ham United with only four matches to play.

Burnley return to the second tier, having been promoted from the Championship last season as runners-up, alongside champions Leeds United and play-off winners Sunderland.

Leeds and Sunderland have adapted to life in the top-flight, but Burnley have struggled.

Manager Scott Parker has guided his side to just four wins all season, with just one of those coming in their past 25 league games – dating back to the start of November.
