Chelsea’s lavish transfer spending in the Todd Boehly era increased once again with the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk.

The Blues have paid £88million for the highly-rated Ukrainian winger from Shakhtar Donetsk, beating rivals Arsenal to his signature.

The 22-year-old has penned a staggering eight-and-a-half year contract at Stamford Bridge.

His arrival means Chelsea have spent £158m in total this window on five players (Benoit Badiashile – £35m, Andrey Santos – £18m, David Datro Fofana – £8m and Joao Felix – £9m, loan).

Mykhailo Mudryk delighted to be a Blue

‘I’m so happy to sign for Chelsea,’ said Mudryk.

‘This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career.

‘I’m excited to meet my new team-mates and I’m looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff.’

Arsenal also wanted Mudryk, who scored seven goals in 12 league appearances for Shakhtar this season.

‘He is a young player with exciting quality in the final third. He is very fast and direct and I think the crowd will like him,’ said a delighted Blues boss Potter.

Chelsea have spent more than £400m on transfers since a consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly took control of the club in May 2022.
