Cole Palmer, Declan Rice and Kobbie Mainoo among five players who withdraw from England squad for Nations League games

Cole Palmer has pulled out of England’s squad for their upcoming Nations League matches due to injury.

Palmer was recalled to the Three Lions squad on Friday after being a surprise omission from Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

However, the Chelsea playmaker has withdrawn due to a minor injury.

Palmer is one of five England players who have stepped down from the squad to fitness issues – with Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, Manchester United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford as well as Newcastle defender Tino Livramento completing the quintet.

With those five pulling out, Tuchel has called up Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White and Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

Speaking on Friday, Tuchel said Gibbs-White was close to be selected in his initial squad.

England host World Cup winners Spain at Wembley on September 26, then travel to Czechia (September 29) and Croatia (October 3) before the Czechs visit on October 6.
