Spain WIN the World Cup after 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in one-sided final – as Enzo Fernandez is sent off for South Americans

Spain have won the World Cup for the second time in their history after a well-deserved victory over Argentina in this summer’s showpiece.

Luis de la Fuente’s side, who are the reigning European champions, were the dominant side throughout the contest and preserved in extra-time thanks to Ferran Torres’ strike.

For Argentina it was a performance to forget as they were thoroughly outclassed and ended the match with 10 men after Enzo Fernandez was sent off in second-half stoppage time of normal time.

Fernandez’s dismissal was the culmination of his country’s frustrations as their spoiling tactics failed to wear down Spain – although it made for a dull spectacle. In truth, the South Americans were fortunate to finish the match with 10 men – such was the contentious nature of some of their challenges, with substitute Leandro Paredes at the top of that list.

As the full-time whistle rang and Spain began to rejoice their celebrations were marred by some of their Argentine players and backroom staff such as Paredes hitting out their players as well as some of their squad.
