Twitter/@ManUtd

Portugal forward and Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave the Premier League club with immediate effect.

The decision was made following the controversial interview that the Portuguese star had with Piers Morgan last week.

During the interview the ex-Real Madrid player announced that he had “no respect” for manager Erik ten Hag.

The official word from both the club and the player was that CR7’s exit was “mutually agreed”.

In a club statement Manchester United said: “The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford.”

As well as following up that they wished ‘him and his family well for the future’.

This season has not been the best for United – with the club fifth in the Premier League in Ten Hag’s first season as manager.

While last season Ronaldo scored 18 times in 30 games in the league this season he only scored once in 10 appearances.

He is currently with the Portugal squad and likely to captain them in their opening game against Ghana on Thursday.

Where next for CR7

It is unknown where he will end up next but currently the bookies believe he will go back to Sporting Lisbon – where he started his career.

There is the possibility of him staying in England and moving to Chelsea but he might want a fresh start and head to the MLS.

Another alternatively his for him to reunite with former Real boss Jose Mourinho at Roma.

A left-field switch to Saudi Arabia could also be on the cards in the shape of Al-Nassr.

Chelsea: 9/4

Any MLS club: 4/1

Bayern Munich: 7/1

PSG: 8/1

Real Madrid: 9/1

Napoli: 14/1

Roma: 14/1
