Norwich City have signed Isaac Hayden on a season-long loan deal from Newcastle United.

The Canaries have an obligation to make the move permanent subject to specific performance-related criteria being met throughout the 2022-23 campaign.

Hayden started his career at Arsenal, before joining Newcastle in 2016, having impressed in the Championship on loan at Hull City the season before.

He was part of the Newcastle side that won the Championship in 2016-17 and has made 171 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies, scoring seven times.

He suffered a knee injury and was forced to undergo surgery in December 2021, subsequently being left out of Newcastle’s Premier League squad for the second half of the season.

The 27-year-old is keen to get started at his new club and eager to help them earn promotion back to the Premier League following their relegation to the Championship.

Norwich head coach Dean Smith added: ‘We’re really pleased to have the deal for Isaac sorted so early. We know of his ability and he’s a player I’ve been tracking for a number of years.

‘He brings a lot of experience of both the Premier League and Championship. We know he is a really good personality and character and that will add to our group.
