Jose Mourinho is SACKED as Roma manager – with Italian club ninth in Serie A

Roma have sacked manager Jose Mourinho with the Italian club currently ninth in Serie A, 22 points behind leaders Inter Milan.

The news follows a disappointing week for the club, where they lost to 1-0 bitter rivals Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals and then 3-1 away to AC Milan in the league.

Mourinho guided Roma to their first trophy in 14 years when his side beat Feyenoord 1-0 in the first-ever UEFA Europa Conference League final in 2022.

Roma also reached the UEFA Europa League final in 2023, where they were beaten by Spanish side Sevilla on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Mourinho’s side struggled at the start of the 2023-24 campaign and took just five points from their opening six games.

Roma statement

Roma’s owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin thanked the 60-year-old for all his efforts at the club in a statement issued to announce Mourinho’s departure.

‘We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.

‘We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

‘We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.’
