Manchester United’s captain, Harry Maguire, has been part of an “alleged incident” on Thursday evening in Mykonos where he is on holiday with friends.

There are reports in Greece claiming that the £80m signing, from Leicester City, was involved in an incident outside a bar on the Greek island.

United released a statement on Friday: “The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night. Contact has been made with Harry, and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities. At this time we will be making no further comment.”

So far there has been some footage on Greek newspaper Protothema’s website which was taken earlier in the evening where Maguire seemed to be enjoying himself in the crowded bar.

The 27-year-old England international was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjær last summer, for a whopping £80m fee, which was a world record for a centre-back.

He was appointed captain as part of Solskjær’s relatively successful attempt to rebuild the team and put his own stamp on the squad.

United finished third in the Premier League, qualifying for the Champions League, as well as reaching the semi-final of the Europa League.
