Tottenham Hotspur are in active talks with Roberto De Zerbi as they look to appoint a new head coach following the departure of Igor Tudor.

Spurs’ season has spiralled into crisis, with the club sitting just one point above the Premier League relegation zone and only a handful of games remaining. Tudor’s short-lived spell—lasting just 44 days—ended by mutual agreement after a poor run of results, forcing the club into urgent action.

De Zerbi emerges as top target

De Zerbi, who most recently left Marseille earlier this year, has quickly become Tottenham’s primary target. Known for his progressive, attacking style of football—seen during his time at Brighton—he is viewed internally as a coach capable of delivering both short-term survival and long-term identity.

Initially, the Italian had preferred to wait until the summer before taking another job. However, negotiations over the past 24 hours have intensified, and he is now open to taking charge immediately, with Spurs pushing for a swift appointment.

Contract talks and sticking points

Tottenham are reportedly offering a long-term deal—potentially five years—along with significant financial incentives, including a survival bonus. However, discussions are ongoing around key clauses, particularly those linked to relegation.

The urgency is clear: Spurs want a permanent manager in place before players return from international duty, rather than appointing another interim coach.

A high-risk, high-reward appointment

De Zerbi’s potential arrival is not without controversy. While widely respected for his tactical approach and coaching methods, he is also seen as a bold—and risky—choice given the club’s precarious position. Some fans have already voiced concerns about both his temperament and past comments.

What happens next

A decision is expected imminently, with reports suggesting the “next few hours” could be decisive.

If an agreement is reached, De Zerbi would become Tottenham’s third manager of the season—tasked with one clear objective: keep the club in the Premier League.
