LIV Golf’s exodus continues as Graeme McDowell joins the likes of Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Louis Oosthuizen in leaving tour

Graeme McDowell has become the latest player to quit LIV Golf as the tour’s exodus continues to mount.

The 2010 US Open winner accounted on Monday that he has ‘decided not to pursue LIV 2.0’ which is due to start next year.

The 47-year-old follows a plethora of high-profile names who have left the breakaway tour that is headed up by Jon Rahm – who is reported to have forfeited £75million to leave LIV Golf.

Last month, the rebel tour begun proceedings to file for bankruptcy protection with at least £33m owed to players.

As well as Rahm and McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen – a fellow major winner – has left. Tom McKibbin, Tyrrell Hatton and Ian Poulter have also departed.

Former world No 4 McDowell joined LIV Golf when it first launched in 2022. In his four years on the tour his best finish was a tied-second in Virginia in June 2025.

Graeme McDowell statement on quitting LIV Golf

‘I’ve decided not to pursue LIV 2.0,’ said McDowell, who is set to return to the DP World Tour.

‘I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve had over the last four years and want to thank everyone who has been part of that journey.

‘I look forward to the next chapter in my career.’

From next season, in order to be eligible for Europe’s Ryder Cup team, players must be members of the DP World Tour.

Next year’s Ryder Cup is taking place at Adare Manor, in the Republic of Ireland, with Europe looking to beat the USA for a third-straight tournament after impressive victories in 2023 and 2025.
