Arsenal have completed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira from Porto. The 22-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners will pay an initial £29.9million, with the fee potentially reaching £34.2m with add-ons.

Vieira came through the youth system at Porto, making his first-team debut in 2020 and he went on to win two league titles and one Taca de Portugal with them.

He is yet to be capped at senior level by Portugal, but he has an impressive record with the Under-21 team, scoring 13 goals in 21 games at that level.

Edu and Mikel Arteta delighted with Fabio Vieira signing

Arsenal moved quickly to secure Vieira’s services and technical director Edu is keen to strengthen the squad further before the transfer window closes.

He said: ‘We’re so pleased to have completed the signing of Fabio from FC Porto.

‘Fabio is a player with special qualities who is comfortable with the ball in the final third of the pitch.

‘We will now continue to work hard and are looking forward to finishing this transfer window as strongly possible.’

Manager Mikel Arteta added: ‘I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent.

‘Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.

‘We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.’
