Burnley have hired Fabio Celestini as their new head coach, following the sacking of Nicky Hayen at the weekend.

Celestini arrives at Turf Moor looking to overturn the club’s form after a disastrous start to the season where they have lost six of their 12 Championship matches to sit 22nd.

Hayen was sacked on Saturday evening just hours after seeing Burnley lose 4-1 at Lincoln City.

He was only appointed on July 10, succeeding Scott Parker who left the club at the end of April following their Premier League relegation.

Celestini arrives with a winning CV – having led Basel to the Swiss Super League title and the Swiss Cup in 2024-25, before winning the Russian Super Cup with CSKA Moscow the following season.

Upon joining the Clarets, the 50-year-old said: ‘I look at Burnley and I see a club with big potential and players with real quality, who can help us achieve our supporters’ ambitions.

‘I know the situation we are in, and I have lived it before. Our supporters deserve to see a team playing with belief from the first whistle.’

Celestini’s first game in the Burnley dugout be on Saturday afternoon when they host Portsmouth in the Championship.
