Mohamed Salah has announced that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of season in a surprising video on his social media account.
Taking to his channels on Tuesday evening, Salah revealed the news – stating that ‘leaving is never easy’ in what will be nine years at Anfield.
, but will leave on a free transfer after the club said they had ‘reached an agreement’ over his future.

‘Hello everyone, unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season,’ the Egyptian forward began.
‘I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life.
‘Liverpool is not just a football club, it’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club.
‘We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life.
‘I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the teammates past and present.
‘And to the fans, I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It’s something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.
‘Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you.
‘This club will always be my home to me and to my family.
‘Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.’
End of an era for Mohamed Salah and Liverpool
Salah ended last season on a high as a catalyst for their title-winning season under Arne Slot, but he and the club have had a downturn this campaign – which has included dealing with the death of Diogo Jota last summer.
Salah has scored 10 goals in 34 games in all competitions so far this term – figures which see him on course for his lowest goalscoring tally. Meanwhile, Liverpool in tussle to qualify for the Champions League – sitting a whopping 21 points Premier League leaders Arsenal in fifth.
The writing has been on the wall for Salah’s time at the club since December too after an explosive interview following a 3-3 draw at Leeds. He was unhappy after being an unused substitute at Elland Road – the third straight game he had started on the bench – and later said he had been ‘thrown under the bus’ by the Reds.

Taking to X, Liverpool wrote: ‘Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season.
‘The time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.’
Mohamed Salah’s legacy
Salah will leave Liverpool as a bonafide club legend. Since signing in 2017 from Roma, he has helped the Reds to two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two EFL Cups, as well as the Community Shield.
Salah’s tally of 255 goals in 435 appearances for the Reds has him third in the pantheon of all-time leading scorers for the club, behind Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285).
He has won the Premier League Golden Boot on four occasions and been named the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year three times – in 2018, 2022 and 2025.
