Manchester City sign Elliot Anderson in a club-record £116m transfer from Nottingham Forest

Manchester City have completed the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a club-record £116million transfer.

The 23-year-old – who was wanted by rivals Manchester United – has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, which runs until June 2031.

The deal, which had been agreed while he was on England duty at the World Cup, was due to make the midfielder the most expensive player in British history but that has since been eclipsed by international team-mate Morgan Rogers’ £117m move to Chelsea on Tuesday.

Upon joining City, Anderson called it a no-brainer to sign for ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’.

‘As soon as I knew [City] wanted me, I was absolutely determined to make this move happen,’ Anderson said.

‘You want to test yourself at the highest level. Being at City means I have that opportunity.

‘As soon as I arrive in Manchester after a break, I will be doing everything I can to establish myself in the City team.’

Anderson’s fee surpasses the £100m City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish in 2021.

He will join a team led by former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca who arrived in June after Pep Guardiola stepped down as City manager after 10 years in charge.

‘They’re winners, they’re relentless, and that’s the sort of team I want to be a part of – champions and people who win trophies,’ continued Anderson.

‘Over the last 10, 12 years, they’ve dominated, so that’s why I wanted to join.’
